Coastal Pilgrims
For Pilgrims heading towards Nidaros (Trondheim), the sea was the most common thoroughfare in the Middle Ages. Now this Coastal Pilgrimage is re-launched for modern Pilgrims. The leg between the islands of Selja /(Stad) and Giske is named ”Sunnmoersleia”. The summer of 2015 saw the first organized , modern Pilgrimage from Borgund in Aalesund to Selje Monastery, and the route goes through seven coastal municipalities: Aalesund, Giske, Hareid, Ulstein, Herøy, Sande and Vanylven.
The main means of transport are different types of boats, and every day there are also walks of varying lenghts.

The goal for this summer’ s Pilgrimage  is Seljumannamessa , the annual commemoration of the birth of Christianity in Norway, at Selje Monastery on Sunday the 2nd of July.
